What is Orthodontics?
Orthodontics is a special type of dentistry that corrects irregularities of the teeth, bite and jaw by fitting braces. Orthodontics can help to:
These corrections can be done by moving the teeth into the correct positions either with fixed or removable orthodontic braces. Invisible braces have become very popular especially with adult patients as they can be taken off for eating and cleaning.
It’s never too late for adults to have their teeth straightened and there are different types of braces available depending on your needs.
Types of Braces
Invisible or clear braces (Invisalign™)
Invisible braces straighten teeth using a series of transparent easy to wear aligners that fit comfortably over the teeth. Patients wear each clear brace for approximately two weeks during which time the teeth are moved in precisely planned incremental steps. Gradually, week by week the invisible system helps move the teeth into their desired final positions.
The main benefits of invisible braces are that they are extremely comfortable, let you clean your teeth normally and can be removed when necessary – for eating, drinking or business meetings. They are also less noticeable than conventional fixed braces.
