Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to have a dental implant fitted?

It can take between three to six months for the dental implant to bond with the jawbone. During this period you are given a denture or provisional bridge until the permanent crown is put in place.

How do I know if dental implants are right for me?

The most important factor is how much available bone you have. Your implant dentist is the best person to evaluate this.

How successful are dental implants?

The treatment has been carried out for more than three decades and over a million patients have been successfully treated in that time. Statistics confirm a success rate of nearly 95 percent for dental implants*, and even higher for the bridges they support. *Results based on Noble Biocare dental implants and dental bridges remaining and in function over a five-year period.

How to care for dental implants

Most implants can be cleaned by brushing and flossing in just the same way as natural teeth. However, in some areas you may need special floss, interdental brushes (TePe brushes), or other cleaning aids to maintain good oral hygiene. The areas around implants need to be thoroughly clean to ensure your implants are a lasting success.

The hygienists at Mona Lisa Smiles can help you care for your dental implants and are very happy to show you how to use the various cleaning aids effectively. Contact us to make an appointment.

Mona Lisa is able to supply you with the variious cleaning aids. Please ask at reception for details.

What results should I expect?

Your replacement teeth should look, feel, and function like natural teeth. Losing an entire tooth (crown and root) may cause shrinkage of the jawbone causing your face to look older. Dental implants can stop this process.

Is the treatment painful?

There can be some discomfort, similar to having a tooth taken out.

How do I deal with my ageing teeth?

As part of the ageing process teeth can become discoloured, crooked and worn out. Veneers create a ‘smile makeover’ by improving the symmetry, proportions and colour of teeth. Veneers give your entire appearance a healthy, younger look and can boost confidence.

Implants and insurance

Some dental insurance plans may cover a portion of the fee but most do not. However, Mona Lisa Smiles can offer payment plans to make implant treatment affordable. If you would like to know more, then please contact us.

For example: dental implants including a crown from £100 pm. 0% finance is subject to status. Terms and conditions apply. Please ask at reception for details of our finance plans.
